learned this morning tha Eugene Dowling, tuba prof from the university of victoria here in british columbia passed awy from prostate cancer.i am currently listening to his cd The English Tuba where he shows prowness on bass tuba but also a cortois french c tuba.Athough i never met Mr. Dowling i am told from others that he was not only a fine tuba player but also a real gentleman.

Very sad news. I met Gene when he was here in Eugene for a master class with Michael Grose last fall.
