This has been a bit of a contraversy in my house ever since I got the music.

Effie is also the pronunciation of the pieces range (4'th line F under the staff to 2'nd line E--> FE-->Effie). Maestro Wilder was pretty funny that way.

I believe that Edgar Bergen (of Charlie McCarthy fame) had a female dummy named Effie Klinker.
Also, in a long-lost episode of Gasoline Alley, wasn't there a young girl named Effie who played golf with a shaved-down baseball bat?
