Anyone ever use these with their ensemble? What is the music like? I'm using the Reynolds Intonation Exercises to great benefit and am always looking for more materials to make the group play better. Thanks.

These are great if your group has a coach who can step in a keep time/wave a stick/stomp his foot accurately. They will help a lot if everyone is willing to accept what the exercises tell the group. For an already pretty solid group they will not give you much that you do not already know about your tendencies.

If yours is an amateur or student group with little chamber experience they could be quite eye-opening and helpful. I was in one new quintet recently where we all were pretty solid players, but our "group feel" had not yet come into being. We are all "professional men" {physicians, attorneys, a CPA). All highly trained in what we do. These almost caused a few arguments until we recorded ourselves. Very eye-opening.

I asked the local pro if his group uses them. He had used them back when he was in high school. The band director was their coach, and he would conduct them through everything. Eventually they did not need his time keeping or ear. This pro also said they were great in that context but were of no use to him now. I guess you eventually figure all that stuff out. <g>

I would video the group to prevent arguments. These can cause some finger pointing.

They used to be pretty expensive, too. It is your money.

Your link looks like it is to a recording. I was speaking about the two volumes of sheet music. Sorry.

That's fine, I'm looking for info. I never heard of these before. I often play with folks that need more chamber music skills development and I can be called on to coach quintets, so I might look into getting these. Thanks.
