Opinions needed-
I am thinking of upgrading from a Shilke 67 I currently use in my Thor- it just doesn't cut it down the bottom.
Any thoughts from those who play one and what do you use? Helleberg II? Laskey 30h, G&H? I'm well aware it's a personal and subjective thing, but two heads are better than one.

My student uses a Laskey 30H on his. He has said nothing but good things about the pairing.

While I don't use a Thor, I can vouch that the mouthpiece(s) that Bloke has produced are some of the best mouthpieces on the market.

He's also a straight shooter when it comes to selling the product. It is worth the investment in time and money to purchase from him. You will not be disappointed.

I'm a happy customer and definitely endorse his product.

I have recently become a huge fan of Warburton and Mike Finn mouthpieces in combination with my Rudy 5/4 CC. The Finn Model H and Warburton TG-4 are intended to be replicas of original 1930s vintage Conn Hellebergs. They have an internal cup diameter of 32 mm which is slightly smaller than your Schilke 67, but they have a more open throat. The cups may also be a little deeper, but that is strictly a guess.

I also really like the Warburton Canadian Brass - Arnold Jacobs mouthpiece which has a slightly wider interior diameter than the Schilke 67, and also has a more open throat. It may be the most free blowing mouthpiece I have ever played and is great for the low register. It is my understanding (from Russ Ward) that the Warburton TG-1 is the same mouthpiece that was originally called the CB - AJ, which is now manufactured by Kelly.

From what I can piece together, the TG-4 is a replica of a Conn Helleberg stage MP used by Arnold Jacobs as his primary MP for standard repertoire. He wanted a MP that was larger for the big contrabass repertoire, so he had Schilke take one of his stock Conn Hellebergs and shave out the cup and open up the throat a little, producing the MP that was later copied and marketed as the CB-AJ.

I bought my CB-AJ MPs from Russ Ward, who had purchased them from Warburton before the fire that destroyed his factory. You can find Russ's e-mail address at the Warburton website to see if he has any left. Or, you can order a TG-1 from Warburton directly. They are more expensive, but they have a pretty liberal return policy, so you just have to pay shipping both ways and a small restocking (and sanitizing) fee.
