Pretty incredible condition for a used horn let alone a school horn. What kind of school donates such a thing?

300?!? Way to go Schlepp! I've been waiting for a deal like that, but tubas seem rare in Nebraska....

Elsewhere you told of the YBB-641 having a valve section that can be unmounted. Please post photos showing that facility.

At least some old YBB-321 basses had a large hex-nut at the valve end of the leadpipe. I was told this was not for disassembly, but only something used during the original assembly.

Damn :!: You sure got a steal of a deal on that tuba & case! That tuba is easily worth several thousand in it's current condition as it is. IMO, the YBB-641 makes a nice dark centered sound and has a great low register :tuba:

I hope it is a good sample of this model. With its wider bore and narrower bell as compared to your 187 you should get a more punchy sound. Good to have both.

PS: Thanks for the photo of the assembly joint. Looking forward to a full photo documentation of this tuba, wen you get the time.

Try calling Yamaha. They may be able to help you out.

You likely have seen this page:

https://sites.google.com/site/yamahacol ... mber-lists

Not that it will give you an answer for this specific model, but it tells about the nature of the problems with the documentation. Also tells that Yamaha US will be helpful, when asked, but that even they have problems in this matter.

As I remember it Yamaha, at least with some models, started with 00001 for each model. A numbering which includes the tests samples sent various Yamaha artists. I seem to remember having played a band provided YEB-321 with the number 00058 or 00085, which was bought in 1978 or 1979.

Man, what a deal. In this state (SC) it is my understanding that schools, gov. agencies have to turn stuff like that in to the state salvage office where they try to sell it to resell it.

Congratulations!

I've been to the place in Columbia where they sell that stuff a few times. Once they had six sousaphone cases from USC, and a clarinet. So none of Schleppy's luck there for me.

There's also a federal surplus place on the same property, but you have to be from a government agency or be buying for a 501c3.
