I'm looking to buy some Polka music. Any sugestions on a good piece? Also any body know any website where I can look at music for free. Thanks.

I don't know of anyone in the German music business that does free trials. However, Hansen Music in Florida still has the Hungry Five in Germany booklets and just about anything else in the way of German music can be purchased at the Fest Musik Haus in Medina, Texas.

Authentic German folk music is fairly hard to come by.

If your looking for just fun music to play there's always the beer barrel polka or in heaven there is no beer. Two of my personal favorites

Look for the arrangements of polkas for tuba quartet by Ray Grim. They are published by Cimarron, now BVD Press. One of their publications is an antholody of polkas played by the TubaMeisters.

But they ain't free.

There's a tuba quartet book floating around that is used in a lot of OctubaFests. There are about 8-9 tuba quartet (2-2) arrangements of polkas in that collection.

They were all arranged by "Woo"... anybody know who that is? Free, if someone will contact Benjamin with the photocopies.

If you are looking for "real" polka band arrangements, it's a different matter. There are hundreds that have been published (for different instrumentation) but most are out of print by now.

Many polka bands learn tunes by ear so they don't use charts for the most part.

Check out Gail Robertson's arrangement of the Lichtensteiner Polka available thru the Tuba Press. It's an enjoyable peice for players and audience.

Beer Barrel Polka
Pennsylvania Polka

Can be played as a medley or individually.
