I am getting a Miraphone 191 clone. It is in beautiful condition with new linkage, and plays very well. My question is, what practice mute would you recommend? I live in an apartment, with a very, very large balcony. I don't want the sound (even out there) to be a problem. Any insights will be appreciated.

I use a Schlipf practice mute on Miraphone 191. I bought it from Lee Stofer. It was pricey but works very well.

Thumbs up for Schlipf - very happy with mine.

I also have a Silent Brass, and I also basically ignore the electronics.

One complaint I have is that, especially in the extreme upper and lower registers, it dramatically changes the response of the instrument, making practice basically non-transferrable to normal playing. Are other options like the Schlipf any better in this regard?

I also have the silent brass and prefer the Schlipf. The silent brass is, for me, too heavy.

I had the silent brass. Worked well, but was too large and top heavy. I decided to just leave and go where I don't need to use a mute.

I have a brand new Humes & Berg 192 Stonelined Sh! Sh! Practice Tuba Mute that I bought for my horn and it doesn't fit. My horn is a smaller CC and the mute is obviously for a regular size 4/4-5/4. Was told it would fit. I paid $175.00 plus shipping for it. Granted it is not quite as good as the Schlipf, but it is lighter and a lot cheaper. I will let you have it for $100 and I'll pay the shipping. send me a PM.
