CSO: Shostakovich 7

Post by mdc2d »

According to the 'Song and Wind' book, the recording of the CSO playing Shostakovich 7 (Bernstein conducting) was the last recording Jacobs did with the orchestra before his retirement. Then in the discography it says that Rex Martin subbed in portions of the recording. I was just curious as exactly what parts of the recording was Jacobs, and what parts were Martin. Thanks! Matt C.

Mr Jacobs told me that Rex was at the session anyway so he had him sit in and double some of the parts with him. Don't think Rex played without Mr Jacobs but you'd have to ask Rex.

I believe that all the soloistic parts were played by Mr. Jacobs alone, and that they were playing together for the rest of the recording.
