I can't recall if anyone every posted/detemined where this system started. I was in Germany recently and noticed in the Department stores that mens shirts were marked as either 1/2 or 1/1 to indicate short sleeve or full sleeve.
This has led me to wonder if the fraction sytem for tuba sizes was of German (European?) origin. Anybody have any information on this?

You know that it's a good idea when two different people propose two things that, in the end, will be the same thing.
