MW 2182 Mouthpiece Suggestions

Hi all,

I play on a Meinl Weston 2182 F tuba and am looking for a new mouthpiece. I currently play on a PT-65. I feel like I need to work too hard to get the rich, resonant sound in all registers (especially C and Bb below the staff) I desire. When I first got the horn the guy gave me a PT-72 and I really didn't like the sound I got on that. I played my friends LOUD LM-11 mouthpiece briefly and it gave me a decent sound.

Anyone out there that plays on a MW 2182, what mouthpiece(s) do you like on it? Thanks!

Kyle

I recommend trying a Josef Klier JK 4C. I've used this mouthpiece since 2004 on my MW 2182 in many different settings, from solos to full-size professional orchestras.

The 2182 is pretty much a piston version of an Alexander 155 F. In my opinion, attempts to make this model sound BIG can often lead to unsatisfactory results (unless you're Tim Buzbee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYsc6TFNWN8 ).

I imagine the new AT8U from Dennis Wick would be a great match. I know the mouthpiece that it was based on and have tried that on the 2182 several times before and found it to be a great fit. PM me for details if you're interested.

I've been very happy with the Giddings & Webster Beltane on my 2182.
