I imagine you are being somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but there is always a kernel of truth in what we say.
I firmly believe that I was not more successful, on a professional level, because of my mind set. I would put the great musicians I heard on a pedestal, in effect saying (to myself), I'll never be that good. And guess what, I found ways to make those thoughts reality.
What I have learned over the years, is that the proper approach after hearing a great artist is to get really excited and say "I can't wait to get to the practice room so I can learn how to play like that!"
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, in either case, you are probably right.
