Exclusive Interview with Chuck Daellenbach of Canadian Brass

Post by sethhanes »

Hey guys,

This is my first time on TubeNet and really psyched to check out this community of brass players!

I recently had the opportunity to interview Chuck from the Canadian Brass and got to talk with him about:

-The first gigs the Canadian Brass ever did
-How they played hundreds of concerts in their first few years
-What characteristics they look for when recruiting new members
-What Chuck would do if he were starting his career today

A friend recommended that I share this here with you all so I hope you enjoy it.

You can check out the interview here: http://musiciansguidetohustling.com/an- ... ian-brass/" target="_blank" target="_blank

Looking forward to hearing what you all think and getting involved on the forums here. :tuba:

Thanks everyone!

This is an excellent interview that offers great advice from one of the world's most successful brass "performers." Thank you very much for taking the time to conduct this interview. Thank you very much to Chuck Dallenbach for sharing his insight and wisdom.

Welcome to the board Seth. What a fantastically valuable contribution on a first post :tuba:
Thanks for approaching the practical (keeping the lights on) side of tubadom. I especially enjoyed management angles, then and now, and Chuck's description of cresting the hill and examining the next move.
Looking forward to more contributions

Thank you so much for posting that. So much of what Chuck said hits home with me. I am a member of a brass quintet that for 13 years has played mostly for our own enjoyment but occasionally for a bit of cash. Very valuable stuff here. I also find it heartwarming that I am not the only low brass player in the world that hangs around the house in a shirt with hand mended seams. Never met the guy but he seems really down to earth.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

Thanks for a great feedback everyone. Chuck is a heck of a guy and really knows his stuff.

I particularly like what he had to say about always remaining relevant and how they're always on the lookout for ways adapt/leverage new mediums.

I actually did an interview with Andrew Hitz from Boston Brass a few months back. I'll share that one soon. He also has great stuff to say about the business side of things!
