Hi Everybody!,

Does someone know this Alex F Tuba ?

It's offered to me, and plays extraordinary! One of the best F tuba's I've seen around. It's a 1957 (could be '59) Alex, and has his origin in the U.S.

Greetings,

LG

ps. I know for sure that this IS an Alex ;) :tuba:

I can't really figure out what it is you want to know.
This tuba is in the Netherlands, is owned by Roland de Wilde (a respectable music shop owner) and the tuba plays very well. I would have purchased it myself if I had needed it.
Hope this helps.

I heard it was an American owned tuba, so I figured that someone here would know or recognize the tuba.
There's not specific something I want to know, just findings of players on it.

it doesn't look that old. Actually it looks fairly modern.

If you are thinking about buying it... you should check all the resources and current ownership before sending a check, Western Union, PayPay, etc. This looks like a new horn and the image is possibly from a catalog.

Is the 5th valve a long semitone?

5th is the standard whole tone-ish

STOP,
let me first take back everything I said 'cause it looks like I was jumping to conclusions.
I saw a FB post with the very same tuba picture and praising Roland for his work, service, etc.

I just "assumed" this is the same Alex F thats for sale in his shop.

(So "if" this is Roland's tuba you are talking about, then ya, it's possible he bought it in/from the US. But it plays really nice and that's the real point of the matter I guess.)

The image is self made by me. The tuba has been refurbished ( relaquered etc) some years ago, new miniball was installed over the old "s" ones.
The fifth is 1 1/4 step. So a whole semitone.

But no one recognizes the tuba? It's a wonderful instrument .

@ pjv, that was my post indeed. Roland helps me out quite a bit, so it's Rolands tuba. I praised him for his honourably work. I think we might have met some months ago in his shop?

I was curious to who had pre-owned it, and were it was used. Just to get the story of an old tuba;)
