Anyone have any experience with them? The Compact F, Compact Eb, and the sousaphone mute all appear to be the same mute. Is that actually the case? Also, has anyone used the sousaphone mute before?

I have the tornister mute and it blows exactly a half tone sharp (it's designed to do that). This can be a bit annoying sometimes.

Also, I think the rubber seal may damage certain finishes (I heard from someone). I have raw brass and I notice some marking - not sure about lacquer/silver.

The practice mute blows really evenly throughout the range but I've never really got to grips with the one tone high thing. I worked with Iain when he was testing the mutes and if you can work with the tone out when practicing it's a very even mute throughout the register. He has just finished a fantastic new straight/cup mute series for tubas/euphs that blows as well as any mute I have tried. I prefer it now to my Schilpf tour mute (when my tuba is on the truck!!). He is now starting to work again on the practice mutes and expects to have have a working prototype in the next month.

Any questions just e-mail him. He is meticulous with these things so I'm looking forward to seeing what he comes up with next on the practice mute front with regards to one that blows at pitch.

I have the old style one for trombone - it's the best practice mute I've ever used.
