OK, so not 100% tuba related, but kind of. I am looking for a software package that runs on a Mac and can turn midi tracks into printed music. Anyone know of a package that works well for this platform? The original music is on discrete tracks so they can be processed separately very easily.

can do what you ask. Just click on the "specs" tab after you open the RW page. Or are you looking for something more along the lines of Sibelius/Finale ?? Where you can also write, edit, etc...?

Will do, and no, just the transciption part is all that is needed. Thanks.

Ok,well that the Intuem is a great Midi program...designed for MAC. Depending in what you need (how much computing power) you probably could do what you ask for cheaper, but at least that is a start. Good luck

Maybe I misspoke here. The source is acoustic instruments recorded digitally on discrete tracks, not MIDI source, just digital. Does this make a difference? The group needs to produce printed music as part of the entry process for a national competition.

The only way I know how to convert AIFF files to MIDI is via Quicktime Pro for the Mac. To do this, it is necessary to register your copy of Quicktime. While doing this, you have the option to upgrade to QT Pro. The cost is around $30.00. After your upgrade is done (be sure to keep the serial/registration number where you can find it!), open the program or drop an AIFF file on the QT Player icon. It will open in a window. Now go to File-Save As (or Export?) and save it as a MIDI file. I think this will work...... BTW, I found Intuem very clumsy and not as good as Easybeat, a MIDI sequencer program. This can save MIDI files as AIFF files, but not the reverse and is a quick learn compared to Intuem. Let me know if QT Pro is successful for you.

I must say that Sibelius is the best music notation program out there, and Sibelius 3 has really improved the conversion from MIDI. It is quick, accurate, and you can of course edit and go from there! You can also scan in a piece of music, and transpose it to anotherkey, or arrange it for a different instrument etc.! It is worth a look!

Well if you are going to get into that kind of stuff.... If you hav them a discrete digital tracks...there are a number of converters available (do "audio format converter" search on google and you shoul find some) But may I suggest , for maxximum power getting yourself a decent audio program. Such as a CoolEdit. I think you will find the possibilities with proper audio editing software abound. PM if you need more info of where to start.
