I believe that the VMI 5198 and the Perantucci PT-something(PT6, I think?) are the exact same horn.. getting to the bottom of that should help a bit.
(I was once in a college studio of about a dozen tubists.. one had a 5198 and one a PT-something, I believe the PT6..huge piston tubas. The only difference being the bell engraving and some lacquer accents, there was absolutely no question that these horns came off the same assembly line... and witha $6,000 price difference, there's no question as to which of those two tubists experienced buyer's remorse!)
