Something interesting about my Miraphone 1291

I have been playing on my 1291 since May and have come to really enjoy it. It plays very well.
From pictures I've seen here as well as online, I've noticed there's a difference in my horn compared to a number of other 1291s: the other horns have a brace on the first valve slide to the bell above the leadpipe while mine does not.
From all appearances, this brace was never on my horn let alone that had at any time been removed from my horn as there would have been some kind of left over mark on the silver plate to show where it had been. To the best of my knowledge the previous owner of my horn (read: first owner) did not have the instrument replated.
Is this something that was added over the years?
Any input would be appreciated.
