Thumb Ring

I don't know how to explain it but over the past month, two months, I have been getting some dead skin above my right thumb knuckle (the area where it meets with the thumb ring) that has been getting worse with every tuba session. My theory is that its the thumb ring. It is the first time that its been happening to me, which makes me believe that I have changed the way I position my hand the past two months. Its not as bothering when I am on the CC, but when I am on the F, it definitely starts bothering me afterwards.

Is there some sort of thumb ring rest/cover, similar to the ones sold for clarinets, that are available? Or does anyone have an alternative that may help? I do not want to remove the thumb ring.

Coat the thumbring with clear fingernail polish and see if the problem goes away.

Neither the CC or F thumb rings have sharp edges. I do not want to alter anything, so moving the thumb ring is out of the question.

I can try the clear nail polish but the leather around the ring that Lectron has looks interesting. How did you apply that Lectron? What size does the strip have to be?

Take a bit ~twice the with of the thumbring. Some 3 ounce hide or less should be fine
Pre make holes, soak it in water and sew it on with a thread of your liking
Here is another one with thicker hide on the tube

A shoelace wrapping works well.

Here's another use for Miraphone-style thumb-rings:

(The washer is important!)

What kind of tuba do you have?
