Eastman 632 CC Question

I've recently purchased an Eastman 632 CC and I'm looking for a mouthpiece to match the horn. I've been switching back and forth between a Laskey 30C and a Heleberg 7B (which were the mouthpieces that I used on my F tuba when I still owned one) but I'm sure there are some better options. Most of my playing will be in large community bands, quintets, and the occasional pit orchestra. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, so that I can compile a list of mouthpieces to try. Also if there is any one near Fayetteville, NC that has an array of mouthpiece that I could try out, I would greatly appreciate that.

I really like the Blokepiece Symphony on mine. I've had good luck with the Dennis Wick AT Ultra series as well. I think the AT3U is a good fit for this horn. I also really like the new Dillon Olka CB2. These are what I've tried and liked YMMV.
I've heard of other people having success with the Parker Hall and Parker Hitz models. Good luck!

Call Matt Walters. He knows all there is to know about these, and can make a few recommendations for you.
My guess though, is that this kind of tuba *might not* be as mouthpiece-sensitive as others.

One other thing I forgot to ask...does the eastman receive american shank or european shank mouthpieces? I was assuming american shank but while I've got a post running on here, I might as well ask...

Blokepiece symphony when using in large ensemble (Mainly pit work). Blokepiece solo with # 2 backbore in brass quintet, both using an American shank. Found the sound swallows up the quintet with the symphony mouthpiece and I play in a very loud quintet. The horn is very efficient! While changing the cup doesn't effect the pitch or playing characteristics it will change the breadth of sound.

Andy Smith plays in the Fayetteville symphony and is on the board frequently. Reach out to him, he might be able to help you out.

I use a Parker-Hitz with the Freelancer back bore. This cup-shank pairing is a KILLER combination and really makes this horn sing. This is easily the most fun that I have ever had playing a CC tuba and find that I completely lose track of time whenever the horn is in my lap.

The Eastman EBC-632 is not that mouthpiece senesitive. Fore people with light articulation I recommend the CB series Arnold Jacobs Helleberg. Otherwise the go to mouthpiece is the Chris Olka CB2 in American shank. There are so many good combinations I have heard that there is bound to be a mouthpiece that is comfortable to you that works great on that horn.

What a Cool setup but I can't resist to comment on the stationary bike. I've had a cross trainer for years in my music room and the arm poles make great Tuba Christmas hat holders!

The Wessex chief has been serving me well for the bigger stuff. Haven't had much of chance to play with a small ensemble and experiment.

I played it today with a MrP 5.0 and it seemed to do just fine. Good luck.
Concerning the horn itself, maybe it was just the large room I was in but it seemed to me that the one I played didnt seem to project much. Anyone else have that experience? I would be interested in trying out a silver version to see how it would change the projection.

Projection is just fine for a 4/4 York style tuba. It doesn't have a direct punch, like a rotary Miraphone for example. It packs more of a deep fog, all-encompassing sound. It played like a very nimble Yorkbrunner.

I find that the 5th valve slide catches in the back the most spit on the 632. Usually after dumping that out I don't have many issues
