Stofer Geib review

After looking for a Geib mouthpiece for a little while, I decided to buy a Stofer Geib. Holy crap, this thing is great.

My sound is cleaner and clearer than before, the horn responds better than ever, and it plays extremely efficiently. The sound seems to have both more fundamental and more clarity, without being bright. Range from extreme pedal to extreme unusable squeal is easy, easy, easy. I love it. The Kanstul Geib that I had was nice, but this one is even better.

I've seen people talk from time to time here about it being either small, or having a small backbore. Maybe it is and does, but for me, the combination works very well. What a joy to play, I should have bought one a long time ago.

I can't promise it'll work for everyone, but it sure works great for me. Plus, Lee is a heck of a nice guy and couldn't be easier to work with.

I may eventually buy a gold plated one, because it would look slick against a bright silver tuba. Bling bling! Low priority, though.

I agree with your thoughts on this mouthpiece. I switched to it last September. The clarity of sound is what caught my attention. I use it on both my 163 Alexander CC and my 155 Alexander F. When I tried it on my F, my wife was in the other room and commented positively on the sound difference. I still feel like I'm getting used to it, but I'm quite happy with this mouthpiece. If you know someone who has one, give it a try and see what you think.

Another positive commentary on the Stofer-Geib mouthpieces. I purchased one just about a year ago with an English shank to use on a Boosey & Hawkes BBb tuba that was made in 1944. The mouthpiece really opened up the horn and helped slot the notes to an excellent degree. It is a tremendous piece and really has helped me with that old tuba!
