Not for euphonium, but I had a bad guitar jones once.
We took a sailing trip to Greece and there were four guys who played guitar and nobody thought to bring one.Having to share my bunk on another trip with my Yamaha dreadnaught my wife forbade me to haul it to Greece.Sailboats and guitars are very compatible especially out of range of radio stations-talk about a captive audience.
After that trip she bought me a Martin Backpacker-only three pounds, guitar and case.I never leave on a boat without it.

I was actually in Pheonix as well for a few days this last week for a wedding. I too really wanted to play but I used the time away from the horn to work on my tonguing on a free buzz and on the mouthpiece. I was glad to get back but was glad I had been away too.

The beauty of the euphonium - it packs into the car trunk pretty nice, especially in a compact soft sided bag.

When we travel home for holidays, we have cooking stuff for baking (our folks never have things like baking soda and cinnamon, etc.), luggage, presents, a backpack for the annual winter overnight camp trip with my buddy, and the euphonium + accessories. We look like traveling nomads every year. And last year, to make the packing even more interesting, we had our cat with us in the back seat.

That was a tight ride!

To chide in on the original thread...

Yes, it sucks. I travel a lot during the summer and spend a lot of time in hotel rooms. Sometimes I only get to actually play the horn 2 nights a week, and the rest of the week I'll end up buzzing the mpc (which my work roommates just love). This year I'm bringin' the Voldyne with me some, as I think losing air capacity is as bad as losing embouchere.

I hate it when im stuck away from my horn for a while.

on the flip side, anyone ever notice when you do go a week or so away fromt he horn and you come back.. Some things feel so refreshed and open and such. Maybe its just a false sense because its new(again), or maybe its something else.
