Rocky Mountain Caseworks has a nice single pouch that self-closes. Nice padding and retaining clip to hook to your bag. From what I understand, the company is now out of business but several dealers have some in stock.

I use a Cavallaro tuba mouthpiece "roll." It is a fleece lined, zippered case with loops to attach to a case/gig bag strap. It comes in a 2 or 4 mouthpiece size.

If you need to really go on the cheap and don't care about how stylish you look, you can make one really easily. I took some small sized bubble wrap, cut a piece large enough to double up on itself (smooth side against each other), and lined the inside with craft felt. You could get real fancy as to how you closed it up, I just stapled all around it and left one side open. It works fine.

I know this was last year, but Dillon and Rayburn in Boston both had some in stock. I've been here for six months so I'm not sure of current stock status.

Silly me. I use these in the 2 inch by 4 inch size. I get them at Target.

They are great pouches, available in single and twin sizes. Very protective.

gun case, that's a terrific idea, and a pawn shops are usually a cheap solution to boot. I bet you could find a solution at a flea market too!

You can get these at gun stores also. I believe they are called pistol pouches.

If you decide to go the pistol pouch route, don't get pulled over by the police while your mouthpiece is conveniently on the passenger seat for buzzing.

For euphonium mpcs, a large pharmacy pill bottle works well. Once you line the bottom (and top of the cap if you're picky) with something soft, you've got a hard shell mpc cover. I wonder if one of the largest bottle types would work for tuba mpcs?
