Very cool!! I love big old American classic 6/4 tubas. Most people nowadays would get that and convert it to front action adding extra valves.. I'd personally have it restored and keep it top action, maybe add a fourth valve, maybe not. But either way looks like a great horn. Just a big old classic. Can't wait to hear it

Great video--seeing the horn played puts its tremendous size into perspective. Nice playing, too.

Beautiful! Now you have two eras of astonishing craftsmanship inherent in this tuba, from 1909 and 2017!

Cut it to CC and put a 5v front action valve section on it!

Just kidding! What a badass tuba! Congratulations! :tuba:

Martin is the man! That is one beautiful horn to add to an already impressive collection. Enjoy!

What a beautiful horn! Another great find that has been rescued by a member of this board and also Martin Wilk! I have the same model of horn. My Holton Mammoth Bass was made in 1916 in Chicago and has "Augustana College" engraved on the bell throat. After a little bit of research, I found that Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois opened in 1918. My horn would have been played in the first band formed in this Lutheran liberal arts college which was founded by Swedish immigrants. Lee Stofer sold me this horn and as usual, did a tremendous job of repairing and prepping the horn prior to sending it to me by truck. A wonderful packing job was done by the way! I chatted with "lost" last week. We enjoy these old American 6/4 BATS!

Could you imagine Pokorny, Baer, and Roylance playing those three together? Or Self, Zerkel, and Okla? (insert trio of highly-respected players here)

The horn is awesome! If you are in need of a bag for this fine looking "Mammoth", contact David Messina at Messina Covers in Louisville, Kentucky. He made a custom fit bag for my 1916 horn and it is very well made and the horn fits very nicely on the inside. I have had four bags made by this gentleman and each has been extremely satisfactory. Feel free to mention my name which is Allan Horlick and I am from Canada and have a HUGE red bag for my Holton. David will know who and what you are talking about!
