Just wondering if any one plays a Yamaha Neo BBb or a Besson 994 on one of Bloke's mouthpieces, was thinking of trying one, prob the Symphony with the American shank 33.2mm profonda rim, would this be a good match for the above tuba's would the sound blend well with the other Tuba's, section in a brass band made up of 2 EEb and 2 BBb all 3+1 compensating bessons or Yamaha instruments,
Playing on a MV VB24aw at present, over the years tried all the DW's, PT 50, PT88+ VB18, VB12 also MF3, I liked the PT88+ big low end sound but sounded a bit harsh when anything above F+, also the wrong sound in the pedal register, the VB24aw gives me the sound I want but just need it to be 10-15% bigger.
So can one of blokes MP's get me the sound I am looking for.

As an owner of one of these horns I would like to know too,but, as they are not a very common horn I doubt whether an answer will be forthcoming. I have always used a mike finn 3 on my neo. The 24aw seems very popular with the neo by those who play in England.

I have been enjoying the "Imperial" with the lexan cup extender on my big horn (no, not the same model as yours). I would think that set up would be a good place to start with the variability of going with or without the extender (rather than just jumping into the profundo rim). Also solid on Eb both with and without the cup extender. Just my experience, ymmv.

I used a Bruno Tilz M0 on a Neo when I was playing one. Worked really well. The Neo is a good instrument but does have a limit on volume - not just my opinion but per Dean Morley, a Besson 994 player in my band and if you read between the lines in the 4 bars rest review (it didn't get top marks because it had an upper limit on volume based on my interpretation of the review).

Dean suggested a Mike Finn but can't remember which model. If you search the forum for user andycat he suggests which models would be good.

The Tilz M0 specs can be googled but essentially it would be described as being funnel shaped. My suggestion is to use its specs re diameter and bore to match up something from Bloke as a starting point.

I find if I use a big mouthpiece in my Neo (PT 50) it can be a bit harder to keep it all in tune, and tends to get a bit flat in the middle register. That's most likely just my lips and disdain for practice (anyone can sound good if they practice, the real skill is being able to sound good without practice).

On the other hand, a 24AW (...still waiting for bloke to make a version of this...) seems to keep it all in tune and slotting a bit better.

It could be something to do with how far the shank sticks out. I was looking at getting a PT mouthpiece with an XS shank to see if that helped, but I can't be bothered.. .

Both PT 50 and 24AW work well for me (and I like to keep things fresh with wildly changing mouthpiece rims. Challenge yourself.) Depends if I have to do a heap of pedally stuff or not!

Here's my advice: CALL BLOKE AND TALK TO HIM! I talked to him and got a great Blokepiece for my Neptune.

The great thing about Joe is that he KNOWS these horns from experience.

Sizes, was thinking of getting my PT88+ shank reduced to see if it would improve the sound Remove the harshness, but reluctant if it doesn't work I would not be able to sell in on.

I don't have a Neo, but do have a YBB-631 BBb 3+1 compensating Yamaha and use a Yamaha 67-C4 mouthpiece, and a Kelly acrylic 24AW style. I find both of these very similar and suitable for my needs.

I don't have anything to add to this discussion, I just want to express my admiration at this gem from Tubalux that made me snort coffee out my nose:

Good choice! I switched also from the PT88 to the Symphony (33.2mm) on my Besson 993 and use it (depending on the gig) also on my king sousaphone or Cerveny piggy Bb.
