I use one of these. The height's adjustable so that my feet rest flat on the floor. I sit athwart it and rest the bottom of my tuba on it. Very comfy, and it collapses for transport. I never need to worry about what miserable excuse for a chair that I'm going to find at a gig:

I bought a Wenger Musician's Chair. It's padded and shaped for a musician. I like mine a lot.

I would like someone to design a tuba I could play from a Lazy Boy.

I have this thing about sitting as upright as possible, with my legs pointing somewhat downwards. I´m kinda tall (6´5"), so when I sit on a normal chair with my horn resting on my lap, I and my horn form the letter "D" , the tuba being the straight line, my back being the curved one. Legs will point straight forward, if not slightly up. This leads to my intestines being pushed up, getting in the way with the diaphragm trying to move down.
I use a pneumatically adjustable, leather padded bar stool from a local discount furniture place and a K&M tuba rest. This way I almost stand upright and can even arch back a little, so with some exaggeration me and my horn form the letters "IC" now. LOTS of room for the diaphragm to contract and "undome", pushing the organs down and out. It´s very relaxing, too and sure helps me breathe.

After the last time this theard was discussed I went out and brought a Yamaha DS1100 Bench Style thorne with optional seat back. The quad legs holds my extra weight the hydraulic lift allows me to easly adjust height.
