Wasn't it David Zerkel that wrote a very good article about solos for the contrabass tuba?

Couple of good ones to start with are Beelzebub and one by Eugene Dowling called His Majesty the Tuba.There is also a paperback collection called Solos for the Tuba Player. It was compiled by Herbert Weksellblatt, who was the tubist in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

That is another good one. For that matter, one way to open the door to a lot of good tunes for solos is to make the modest, but very rewarding, effort required to learn treble cleff. Suddenly, every hymnal and collection of Stephen Foster tunes and other americana becomes accessible. Being able to play that stuff musically at sight is a very valuable skill, commercially and otherwise.
