MRP CC Demo Video (Bach Suite No. 5 Sarabande)

Here is a video of the MRP. The MRP is a greatly improved version of the PT6. The horn is lighter, has a better sound and as well as the PT6 was on intonation, this is even better. I look at the MRP as having all the great qualities of the best tubas available today but packaged together in one outfit.

Here is the Bach

The Bach is a work in progress, it will certainly be changed several more times until I have found what I am looking for.

Tritones are easier on strings. :)
I'm just working the first phrase today.
Thanks for introducing a sample of this work to the forum.
Nice job on the recording and performance.
Wow for the fifth mod on the Alex
Joe

The whole piece is easier on strings because they dont have to tank up on air every few seconds.

It's difficult to judge just through a video and not hearing it in person. But from the videos you've posted, the MRP sounds better than the Alex in my opinion.

Wow, Tom -- that sounds great! I agree with the other comments that the horn has great resonance and I think you sound very comfortable on the MRP.

On a lighter note, here's the only other big tuba I have to compare with. Pardon the clacking valves, it's been hanging on the wall since late January. I don't think the cellphone mic does it any favors, either. :)

Now that is wild, playing this on a 3 valve helicon, never would attempt that myself. Good job.

Williamp, I like the helicon (I do see some extra tubing and a big rotor) Nice job playing,
recording and the horn, another WoW. Did you do the mods on it?
Do you have a link on the Helicon details ?
Thanks
Joe

Thanks, Joe. The fourth valve was added by Kevin Powers, with some additional tweaking by Steve Mumford in Ann Arbor. The horn is awesome, but the thumb action has to be rolled forward and is not ideal. I would rather have the fourth valve in line, or at least manipulated as a trigger. Another project some day, but the horn plays really well as is.

Wow, great job. The quality of the low register sound and the resonance really stand out. I am sure the player has quite a bit to do with it.

Having listened to them back to back, I honestly prefer the Alex sound (you can certainly hear the difference when he hits the pedal C which sounds so much better to me on the Alex.) although the MRP is a very nice horn. You have done some really nice work, Tom.

I do like playing the Alex a little more but i think that is just because I don't have to fight the intonation, something that is uncommon with them. The MRP is like the Alex in many ways but on a bigger scale. To me the MRP is like taking the best qualities from the best tubas and rolling them into one. The Alex on the other hand does have an amazing sound, this is why i keep going back to them.
