Review of Perantucci Pt50 Mouthpiece?

I've been looking for a new mouthpiece to throw into the mix with my Conn helleberg for college. After some research I found that the Perantucci PT50 as well as the PT48 and PT88 seemed to all be well liked. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a specific one/give me your review of the mouthpieces. Or if you have any other mouthpieces you would recommend. Thx

Initially, I liked it. Good buzz and sound right off the bat. But after a few weeks, it felt like there was too much metal and the buzz was very deadened especially in the lower register. I still own it but changed it out in favor of a Laskey 30H that was more resonant throughout and had a slightly smaller throat resulting in better back pressure and an overall better buzz.

Have you ever tryed the pt48 or pt88? I've been told they are both better than the pt50 especially the pt48.

How does it do on extreme upper and lower registers?

The mouthpiece is in my view produces a somewhat deadened buzz throughout and I don't hear overtones like I do on the Laskey. I think it is too heavy or the throat too wide. Upper register is full but not resonant. Lower register response is fair. It is way better than a Conn Helleberg but not nearly as good as the Laskey 30H.

I haven't tried the other PTs. Everyone I know that played a PT88 stopped playing it because it is too big and woofy. I don't have any experience with the PT48.

I heard good things about the Laskey 30H and it is so far the best mouthpiece I have used. I get overtones so good luck finding a mouthpiece that helps you with that.

On a 4/4 CC Nirschl, I started with Helleberg -> Schilke Helleberg (I and II)-> PT50 -> Laskey 30H (winner)

The remarks are interesting and in due respect to a fine manufacturer, the 30H is an excellent mouthpiece. At that, the PT-50 is used by more players. Someone looking for a similar mouthpiece that is faster in response could try the Canadian Brass MB-50 or the Potenza MRP 5.0. Looking at the Thomann shop one sees that the Perantucci PT-50+ is their best selling tuba mouthpiece period.....

A good alternative to the PT-50, for someone looking for a bit more ease and comfort, is the PT-44. That would be closer to the 30H.

Just to beat this one a bit further.

I went and tried the old PT50 last night and then the Laskey 30H.

The buzz and ring of the mouthpiece was much stronger on the Laskey. It just buzzes better.

Make sure you check american or euro shaft.

Most of my tuba playing over the years has been with a PT-50 mouthpiece. On a variety of 4/4 CC's, it provided rich tone quality, resonant low tones, and surprisingly well-slotted upper range to E above the staff. I didn't have an F tuba, so for the really high notes (such as in Berlioz and Brahms Requiem, etc.) I used a Rudy Meinl 9.

Ok I will update this post when I make a choice. I'm looking to buy directly from one of my local stores so it may take a bit for them to get them in stock for me to try.
