I found a nice second hand Melton 200. I took a bit of risk buying it because the forth valve was completely frozen and the F was very flat. After cleaning the valves worked perfectly and the compression is very good. The receiver was altered to accept a standard American sized mouthpiece (receiver was to small) and the main tuning slide was shortened. F is still a bit flat, but 1+3 works as an alternate. Sound is glorious and the instrument is very responsive (a surprise for such a large tuba). I think part of the responsiveness is the weight of the instrument. It is pretty light for it's size. The bell material is very soft (I wouldnt store this one on it's bell :)).

Good point Bloke! Actually the horn was not played for 20 years!!! Total build up of calcium deposits (which was easy to clean).

Looks as big as the Cerveny Kaiser. I have never seen this model before.

It is indeed a large kaiser. They do not make this model anymore.

If you decide to sell it I would like to know how would you ask for it...In the brass choir we have one similar...but this one is so a bit hard to play...specially on fast passages...what about this...its bore...and height?

A million bucks ;). Instrument plays easy for its size. But; very big, large rotor throw, lots of air. So... not so good for gast passages stuff. At least not with me playing it. Height is 114 cm's.... its huge :)

I believe Lars Trawen, also on the board, has a 200.

That's correct. However I'm now 74 years old and got arthrosis in knees and hips.
The tuba is too heavy for me to haul around and I've not played it for one year.
If anybody is interested in buying it, please contact me.
It's is in better shape than the tuba in the picture, only small dings and scratches.
Plastic ring around the bell for protection, second valve trigger.
Plastic hardcase in good shape. Price is 8,000 €. Situated in Portugal.
I intend to buy a smaller BBb-tuba, more handsome.
Lars
