Don Strand and Mike Moore are great players and great guys, you would do well to work with either one. They are both in the union, they will have their numbers. If you don't mind a little drive into the nice mountains of North Georgia, Dave Zerkel at UGA is another one of those really great players and teachers who will go the extra mile to see you are taught well. He's a reall stand-up guy, too.

I second the votes for Zerk and Michael Moore. Both are busy guys but will do you a world of good.

Zerkel is beyond cool (even though I've only met him once or twice...).

Strand is also THE MAN. He organizes Tuba Christmas in ATL. Enough said.

I took lessons briefly from a guy who was at Fort McPherson (can't spell it...) several years ago in Peachtree City, GA. Where in ATL are you, and how far are you willing to drive are the key issues...

I agree, check with Ft. McPherson as they generally have good tuba players there who won't be that expensive. They even have a guy with a Masters degree from Manhattan School there right now . Those others guys are pretty good too.

I recommend Martin Hill, grad student at GSU. A great player.

I took lessons from Bill at Music and Arts in the Avenue in PTC. It was really brief, maybe two to three months tops. I thought I wanted to be a music major, but changed my mind when my new high school band director was a total ***, and band became more of a daunting chore than actual fun...

Bill was a really good teacher, and a cool guy to boot. Taking lessons with him was great. I would have kept going but I couldn't justify the $ at the time. Looking back, I wish I had stuck with him, I'm sure I'd be a lot better today.

If you can take lessons with him, go for it. You won't regret it. I don't even know if he's still in Atlanta though..

Bill's about to finish up a year in Korea. He frequents the board and is a regular poster.

I would say give Martin (TubaNinja) a call. I knew him as an undergrad and will say he's the best tuba player I've ever played with personally. And he's nice..usually.

Ah, Parkview. When I was a Senior (03) you guys freaking ROCKED at football. Two undefeated seasons or something like that back-to-back. Amazing! Also, home of Jeff "The Man" Francour, taken 1st round by the braves in the 2003 draft, who almost made the team thise year...
