Generally speaking, most devices I've 'messed' with that feature 1/8" female jacks seem to be able to detect what's being plugged in and what to do with them...or (as with a Windows 10 device that Mrs. bloke has), they ask.

Doing a little research, it looks like worse case one would need an adapter that splits in/out for audio. I'm guessing this picks up low range stuff pretty well, seems like a lot of tuners get sort of wonky once you pace 4 or so ledger lines.
