I got my Meinl-Weston Formerly model 30, back from Robert Pallansch in Falls Church, Virginia. Bob installed a flat whole step 5th valve on my instrument past valve #4. The 5th valve plumbing comes up on the outside of the valves. Bob also fashioned a thumb trigger and linkage for the 5th valve. The linage is behind the #1 - 4 valve plumbing and is quite out of harm's way. The valve was supplied by Tom McGrady of Mack Brass in Virginia.
Bob Pallansch is a retiree from the U. S. Army Fort Myer band and has been repairing and customizing brass instruments for longer than I have been playing the tuba, 41 years. Bob is the best kept secret in the tuba world.
P. S. - Please don't ask for photos to be posted on Tubenet. I am not familiar with the new attachment procedure.

Bob Pallansch did his usual first rate work. I was with Randy when he picked out that tuba and it was excellent with four valves. How does it play now?

It plays beautifully! There is no extra back pressure with the extra valve and the options for alternate fingerings are great.Mark E. Chachich wrote:Bob Pallansch did his usual first rate work.
