Thanks Mike. Between the Wiseman cases and the Accord cases- with both well over $2,000-someone in the USA should be able to make a similar case for tubas and be able to be extremely competive in this limited market.....

Wiseman made that case at my request. I had contacted a lot of different shops that work with carbon fiber. No shops in the US were interested. Howard was the only one to get back to me. With the lifetime warranty and modular aspects of the case I think it's worth the money. With the tuba the case comes out to UNDER 50 pds, which is the magic number for flying. Flying with anything over 50 pds mean a lot of money in overweight charges. The case has taken some SERIOUS falls in my care and the horn has been perfectly safe. One of the most important aspects IMO is the idiot proof way to put it in and take it out of the case. Even with the best flight case you have to pray that the TSA doesn't drop your horn taking it in and out of the case. If you have any questions about the case I'd be happy to answer them

Very clever design. The modular aspect is brilliant. One case for multiple horns is awesome. I guess you can think of it as 2 cases which theoretically cuts the price in half! Plus you don't have to store 2 cases when they're not being used.

The Wiseman case was next door to the Wessex Tubas booth at ITEC and I must say they are beautifully made and look very strong. May be worth the cost if you are regularly flying with a Yamayork, or some unique irreplaceable tuba.

However for those that might think they need such a case for their tuba to fly with band on a trip, my experience is a regular tuba case will suffice. In the last 3 years I have flown with tuba to and from China and UK - and between UK and USA in excess of 30 times. On all those flights the tuba has been transported in a regular Chinese made foambody zip case, and on not one occasion has the tuba been damaged. In fact only on two occasions has even the case been slightly damaged. The most important thing in my experience whatever case is used, is that the tuba cannot move 'inside' the case and the bell is well protected with some kind of bell plug, or expanding ball, so the tuba does not self destruct under its own weight.

Hope that helps for those flying occasionally with tuba to give some real life experience.
