Don't forget the top side of the rotor. You're only oiling one of the two bearing surfaces...

Today, I took the rotor cap off, put a drop of oil on it, then pulled the valve slide - the vacuum slurped the oil in like crazy.
It's not necessary to do so. The capillary forces are working for you.
Otherwise your 40 years of use had worn out the bearings.

No oil between rotor and casing- never!
Only sometimes half a drop thick oil for the two trunnion links.

The "suction" method doesn't work with vented rotors either.

I put my finger over the vent hole, when I pull the slide and it works fine.

Check out the Jeff Funderburk repair videos on YouTube. He talks about how to oil right after cleaning the horn - using the same properties as water - oil tends to "follow the path" to the inner bearing. He does recommend suction for tight clearances.
