Small difference in size between convergence of cup and rim

Can anybody tell me what problems there are (if any) when you have a screw rim and cup (of different makes) which don't line up perfectly? The rim screws on fine but when it is all the way on it sticks just slightly over the cup. Would this do anything to the sound or intonation?

So nothing to worry about

Well ... there are a lot of mouthpieces out there, and strong opinions about one vs. another where the physical differences are fairly small. You won't see many commenters try to explain why the physical parameters of a particular mouthpiece result in a particular sound, or even what sound you could expect from a particular mouthpiece, but that doesn't mean those physical parameters aren't critically important.
But who knows. If you like the sound you're getting, OK! If not, you may be surprised how much difference it makes when you get a matching rim.

OK, but if you feel that the exact contours of the valve tubing are of the same importance to the sound, then I guess pretty much any old mouthpiece would suffice?

It won't affect the sound or intonation, it could only cause any issue when playing if somehow your lips came in contact with that part of the mouthpiece.
It's seems to be challenging enough to get the threaded parts to match well when they're made by the same manufacturer, when you are trying to use a rim and cup of different makes all bets are off!

Actually you can have same manufacturer example (Houser) and three or more different product lines (sellers). For instance I have a Loud LM-10 which Houser manufactured. I have Bloke pieces which Houser made as well. I believe he produces the Parker line as well. While the rims for both go on and off easily there is a bit of difference. I occasionally use one of my bloke rims from my bloke pieces on my LM-10. And there is a noticeable (feel to the finger touch) difference. Aside from the physical difference I have found zero effect to the sound. So unless you can feel the difference with your lips and it bothers you there is no reason to be worried. I do believe the latest Bloke and Houser pieces have eliminated this physical difference issue and are fully interchangeable.

Yep, it's the LM10 for me too which is causing the slight size difference with an Elliott rim.

Denis Wick describes in his book about trombone technique how the player’s air jet(?) is reflected closer and closer to the edge of the mouthpiece the higher the played note is.
From that point of view your extreme high range might be endangered by an uneven inner surface of the mouthpiece. But that high range would have to be really extreme.
