The History of August C. Helleberg

Post by cjk »

I don't even remember how I stumbled across this, but
here's a Danish site entitled "The History of August C. Helleberg". It contains a lot of history and some nice pictures for those that enjoy that sort of thing.

Thanks, really interesting reading. I was heartened to know he had played here in Nashville with the first orchestra and possibly later with Sousa. I've read accounts of them playing here in the 1890s. Also interesting were the pics of the original mouthpieces and rotary-valved Conn tuba, which I've never seen anywhere else.

Paul Bierley's biography of John Philip Sousa had photos of Helleberg with his rotary-valve Conn.
