My family is going to be going on vacation next week in Delaware. I plan on taking my Hirsbrunner CC.

A YBB-103 beats ANY of the so-called 'travel tubas' hands down.

I've heard that setting a tuba on the picnic table guarantees nobody camps right next to you...

I played a Yamaha 103 back in middle school as the first tuba I learned on. They are awesome horns.

What tuba do YOU take on vacation?

NONE!!!! Dear god, I don't even want to see another tuba when I go on vacation.

Don't know how much of a "vacation" this is, but I'm working at a bible camp this summer and brought my Mack 410 with. I don't get a whole lot of time to practice, but the kids enjoy it when they are all on the lake and I start playing Jaws.

I've bought three small tubas recently, two Ebs and a CC. Ultimately I'm going to pick one. Only one (one of the Ebs) is in my possession yet, though.

Used to be the Conn 10J. Probably take the Wessex Midget now.

I routinely take my smaller CC tuba (Kroner) on camping vacations. So far, I have had no complaints when playing scales and arpeggios, often get inquisitive looks and people wandering over with questions, and once did get a request to "play it again" when an acoustic guitar player jammed with me on "Johnny Be Good". On our latest trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota (wonderful camping, BTW), the camp host came over as we were packing up and told me they would miss my playing. And I ain't all that good.... I'd recommend going for it.

Hmmm.. Since it is a Bible camp, the kids might get a kick out of singing some hymns to a tuba accompaniment. "How Great Thou Art" would be super. Imagine the refrain "And then sings my Soooooul, my Savior God to Thee..." coming out of your tuba bell! All of those good old piano-pounding, "Make A Joyful Noise Unto The Lord and The Lord Cares Not If It Is In Tune" hymns would work. It would be fun and a little different but it would hold the kids attention. Gotta use all the tools to teach the kids these days...

The family took a 30 day, 8800 mile rv trip the summer before my stepsons first year in HS band. We packed 2 Yamaha 102 BBb horns and practiced both inside and outside of the RV in almost all of the 27 states we visited.
When I was in college, I packed my 186CC and practiced inside my tent in Yosemite. My friend, out on a bike ride could hear me practicing across the valley and enjoyed the looks of other campers trying to find out where the sound was coming from.(silly vacation 2 weeks before juries) When I worked at a mountain camp for the YMCA(7,000ft above sea level), I brought along a sousaphone to play revile. Have fun.

It wasn't exactly a vacation, but I was a scoutmaster a few years ago and brought a small Eb tuba to our week-long camp. The best opportunity I had to play it was when we had to "bug out" of camp and spend the night in a high school gym due to tornado warnings in our area. I played a few tunes to keep the kids entertained before lights out. I also played taps at bedtime (another leader came up to me later and said that his two favorite songs are "taps" and "The Star Spangled Banner" and that my "taps" was one of the best he's heard. That was certainly nice to hear!) and reveille in the morning.

The tuba was small enough to toss in the van, light enough to carry with all my other gear., and fit under my cot in my tent. I had a good time and got lots of good comments from people! After our "bug out" most people recognized me as the "tuba guy." Fun stuff!
