DMA on EEb?

Post by eupho »

Has anyone done their DMA on one or two EEb tubas rather than CC and F? Or a combination of EEb as the high/solo horn and a CC or BBb as the low/large ensemble horn?

When I say High EEb I am thinking Miraphone 383 "starlight" a la Oysten Baadsvik.

As long as you can play and jump through all of the associated hoops for the DMA. I don't think anyone will care what equipment you use.

If you're getting a DMA, it shouldn't matter what horn you're playing on as long as you meet the requirements and sound great on whatever horn you're using for your audition. Same should go for any other audition for an ensemble

I played a small Eb ("medium" King with a small mouthpiece) and a large one (Conn Giant with a Back 18) for a while; it didn't do anything for me. Eb and a big euph setup would be a better pair if you want to go small. I really enjoy playing tuba excerpts on mine with a contrabone mp.

Just sayin', Eb (or EEb, barring KiltieTuba's semantics) is always the proper horn. :) Just ask our buddies in the UK.

FWIW, I believe that John Olah used his Eb as his primary instrument--at least while he was at UNM.
