Judging by those T-bars, and the horn's general condition, the previous owner cared enough about the horn (and making in-tune music with it) that he went through the trouble to have them installed. Most of the other 3-valve (and some 4-valve) Holtons I've seen are thoroughly trashed.

Mine isn't a 340, older bell front model but similar body. I can't say for sure the strap ring is exactly in the same place, at a glance it might be a bit inboard from where yours is, but it could be photo perspective. Anyway, it's bent inwards considerably, and causes no problem whatever while serving its purpose just fine - I tied a strap on it for some extra purchase while carrying it around. The tuba is somewhat heavy.

Question just for curiosity from a guy who never has, and probably never will, own one of these.

How long are the inner slides on the 1st and 3rd valves? Do they give you about as much length for tuning manipulation as the exterior slides seem to allow? If so, I'd imagine with those T-bars and a little work, this horn could really be a work-horse for lots of situations.

Nice horn. As a side note for future reference, The 4th valve assembly on a 345 is.812"-ish bore, where the first three are .750'', so cannibalizing the other valve section would not be advisable.
