Mahler 1 audition question

For an audition I have coming up, one of the excerpts that's is asked is Mahler 1. Normally I wouldn't find this to be too tricky besides all of the minute details, but near the end of the excerpt there is is the long 11 measure sustained D. I know that at regular auditions the tubist would just bring it down to a PPP early in the sustained D line, but included in the excerpt is the part that is 3 measures of D,A, D,A,A. I don't know if they actually want it in the audition. What does the tuba community recommend?

In committees that I've been on, they only listen to the end of the long D for amusement or if they want to bust your balls-
BUT YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED TO DO EVERYTHING THAT COULD BE ASKED, so keep that in mind

The first round of the Alabama Symphony audition back in 04? I remember them asking for all 10 bars of d. Good for them.

Last time I played it at an audition, they asked specifically for 4 bars, upon reaching the long D I heard a faint metronome click from behind the curtain. I must've cut off just before 4 bars had gone because immediate "Thank You"
ymmv

Um... Dang. That sucks, and is pretty shocking but gives me a better idea of what to do. I have a question for you though. What would you recommend do if you had to send a video audition instead of a live audition?
