Latest Work

Post by Sam Gnagey »

Here's a pair of CC tubas that I've recently finished. Both of them have King bodies and York bells. They're not for sale. The 5-valve belongs to Prof. Tim Olt at Bowling Green in Ohio. I'm keeping the 4-valve for my personal use and for people to try. It has a small crack in the bell that I wouldn't want to let go that way. It plays just fine.
I hope to meet some of you at the Great Plains Conference in Arkansas at the end of this month. I'll have some of my cimbassi and tubas along with me.
Enjoy the view.
Sam

Nice work, Sam. Are the King bodies from Eb horns?

Gnagey tubas

Post by Tim Olt »

Hello all,

Just thought I would drop a little note on here regarding Mr. Gnagey's creations. I have two students in my studio currently playing them, and as he notes I now have one myself. It has risen to be my primary CC tuba. These horns have the traditional York sound without all the quirky pitch issues. They are beautifully in tune, and play very even across all registers. My favorite thing about them is that the horn does not edge out in loud/large dynamics. You can really lay into them without the metallic edge in the sound. If anyone is around the BG area and wants to try one please feel free to contact me and drop by my office.
