Yamaha YBB-202MSWC - Thumb Ring Issue

I am having a problem with a Yahama YBB-202MSWC's thumb ring. This is the first time I have ever used this model horn, so I don't know if the thumb ring is supposed to be adjustable or not. But it's screwed in with a bolt that suggests that it is adjustable because when I screw it in all the way, it's in a VERY non-ergonomic position. How am I supposed to adjust the thumb ring?

Having marched on those horns for that last 4 years, we came up with a few options when this problem occurred.

1. Adjust the washer so that the thumb ring is in a comfortable position

2. take the thumb ring off
and
3. Over-tighten the thumbring until it's in a comfortable spot (Not recommended, because that's what caused this issue in the first place)

The problem when I adjust the washer and tighten it with adequate force, it just becomes loose again and won't stay in place.

Fixed it. I just needed to use a pair of pliers to give me enough leverage to tighten it enough. Thank you!

Yeah, we ended up taking off the thumb rings on the horns that had this issue. Made snapping and the horn at carry easier for some players.
