Salutations,

Is anyone aware of where I can purchase extra Meinl Weston shoelaces (the ones that are on the 6450)? I'm going to be headed to the repair shop soon, so I was going to ask him, but just in the case he doesn't have any, I thought Id ask here.

On really floaty top tuning slides, MW solders lyre holders on the fixed tube and the slide above it and use the set screws to hold shoe laces threaded through them in place so the slides don't drop on the floor or on the bell when the tuba is stood on its bell.

The answer to the original question would seem to me to be "a shoe store," but they might not match exactly.

Match what? Color? Just get a shoestring [I don't know, from an old pair of sneaks?] or similar string and connect it with enough slack to remove the slide if need be. Or, better yet, get your tech guy to tighten up the slide so it doesn't fall out on it's own.

I'm sorry, you have requested a part for a Buffet Group instrument. The parts exist, but only in the form of complete instruments. Want new laces, you have to buy a whole new instrument.

Or, call the Buffet NYC showroom and see if they can help...?

Just have your repair guy install two lyre holders. Something like this(See picture), works just as well, but you will need to buy your own shoelace. I have Matt Walters do this to all my horns,

I guess. Color and texture? They're black and sort of knobby. Not that I care, not having any myself, but some people would.

Shoelaces might do the trick. If You want to be sophisticated, go to a hardware store.
Around here, these sell extremely durable plastic ropes used for mountain climbing.
Similar material is sold down to 2-3 mm in diameter.

Theatrical tie line is what you want.

It is much stronger & more durable than traditional cloth shoelaces and strings. Tie line is available in many sizes and you can get it glazed or unglazed. It is sold by the roll (often 30' or more).

My suggestion is to ask the stagehands or theatre tech folks if you can have a couple feet of it the next time you have a rehearsal or concert. Every theatre in the world has some of this stuff around. Chances are they'll just give it to you, but tie line (by the roll) can be kinda expensive, so maybe bring the crew a round of coffee and a donuts as a thank you.
