Excellent question.ValveSlide wrote:With schools of all types resuming and community group beginning their schedules, what are your goals when you are a member of a section of tubas or euphoniums?
I'm trying to recruit someone more qualified than me to propose a session for the 2019 ITEC about how to help community band sections sound more integrated as a section. I've talked to a couple of people about it, who might do it, but if anyone here has some good ideas about it and a willingness to present it, that would be superb. Credit where it is due: this was Dennis Askew's idea, but I took it on.
As Dennis pointed out, in an academic or professional environment there are other pressures (a shared teacher, or adding players incrementally based partly on who is already there) that help such sections come together. Sections in recreational bands tend to have a lot of room for improvement, but it takes commitment in a different way. If you have ideas for such a presentation, I'd love to encourage you.
(Obviously suggesting this isn't meant to derail talking about this important topic here.)
