I like the smell of pure kerosene (my oil of choice) and STP 40 slide grease. It's industrial smelling, reminds to make my low register industrial sounding.

What about a Hoppes scented valve oil? I'd totally buy it!
Also, straight lamp oil (kerosene) doesn't smell nearly as bad as CLP. By the way, has anyone used CLP on an instrument? I'm curious as to whether it would work, but not brave enough to try it first.

I've been thinking about this same topic, as I've recently jumped on the "home brew" valve-oil-wagon. At almost $6 per bottle (plus tax) for Al Cass oil, via my local music store, "enough is enough".
How's about peppermint oil? Easily available, nice minty aroma, etc.....
Or, maybe eucalyptus oil?
I like the smell of Hoppe's #9, but it is actually a solvent, so I'd probably not use it. I think Remington gun oil ("Rem Oil") has a scent added....

Gentlemen - this reminds me sooo much of my experience when I fist time in my life entered a coffe and tea shop in St. Louis - I almost suffocated from the smell of vanillie, strawberry, bailey, etc, mixed with coffe. I was very disappointed when I found out that the shop would not sell any straight kenya coffe beans .. horrible experience. Probably it's the european way, but I expect coffe to smell of coffe, and synthetic valve oil of syntheic valve oil.

I've added grapefruit scent to my valve oil.
I think anything clean or citrus-y works. I tend away from smells that are too sweet (cookie/vanilla/nutty), although the orange dreamsicle above sounds good, along with mulberry. Wintergreen or other mints are good too, although it would remind me of my Dad's Skoal dipping tobacco.

Do you have access to "chaw" scent?

I have thought about trying this myself. peppermint would be tempting, but could easily be irritating if used too liberally.
Any of the woodsy/pine scents would be nice to try.
Leather seems a natural fit, as even if the petroleum scent bleeds through a bit , it would just smell like motorcycles.
Lavender might also be nice for folks with performance anxiety/stage fright, since lavender has natural calming properties.
Oh, and LOL@ Chanel.
Not on the list, but I'd be pretty pumped if I could figure out how to make bay rum scented oil.

Nah. I use R-T which has as little odor of any kind as any valve oil. The best scent is no scent.

I was a big fan of the home brew of 75% lamp oil and 25% Marvel Mystery Oil, which has a wintergreen scent. I'm wondering if Marvel Mystery Air Tool Oil might work well, but I haven't been daring enough to try it yet.

I have a bottle of lime-scented Zaja that I use on freshly cleaned horns and enjoy. I'm a fan of anything that smells "clean" (think dish or laundry detergent) and opposed to anything that smells "sweet."

Don't use anything that smells like food. That could go wrong.

Add Pheromones - women will go mad for your tuba aroma - then start gyrating those hips while playing.

Non-scented for me. Don't want my lamp (valve) oil to smell like food

Be careful with essential oils - they are EXTREMELY potent and some are less than healthy to inhale.
