So I was watching a performance of Bruckner 7 dated August 9th, 2016 on Digital Concert Hall, and I noticed that Alexander von Puttkamer was not playing in it. More importantly, the sub, whoever he is, is playing on a piston horn.
Yes, a piston tuba, in the Berlin Philharmonic...

Edit, it is not the Berlin Philharmonic, but rather The Konzerthausorchester performing at the Philharmonie, and a quick google search determines the player's name is Michael Vogt, and yes, he was performing on a piston, I presume CC tuba.

The idea of openmindedness and signs of relaxed approaches towards dealing with Tradition offers encouragement, no matter what aspect and region of global culture it occurs in...

My comment goes well beyond the old "rotary vs. piston" thing, but in a way, I am sorry about the trend towards homogenization of orchestral performances. That a French orchestra would have slightly different sound (aka - "accent") than a German orchestra, or a Czech orchestra, all informed by the differences in their histories & social influences of their countries, is attractive to me.
Viva la difference!!! :tuba:
