Hey all,

I'm wondering if some people would care to give a general comparison of these two horns. I know best is to try them out yourself and I plan to, but I wanted to get just some general ideas on the way they play. Sound color, projection, intonation, low range, high range, etc...

COMPLETELY different instruments. They sound different, play differently and fulfill 2 completely different needs. Other than they are both in F, they are not at all similar. I would ask: What are YOU looking for in an F tuba?

I'd say what I'm looking for in an F is a horn that is very versatile and can fulfill lots of different playing needs. Primarily I need a horn that will balance my 2165 in the orchestral setting. I don't want a giant F that will sound too C-like, because to me that defeats the purpose of an F. I've heard that both these horns have a really good F tuba sound, not too heavy or thick.

Secondarily it should also be a really good solo horn, with an interesting sound that projects well. I suppose in the future I will also have need for it to fit well in a brass quintet scenario but for now, I need something that can balance well between orchestra and solo use, and match well with my 2165. Hope that helps.
