It must have been around 1967, that Miraphone introduced a new baryton: this was a 4 valve baryton with rotary valves with increasing bore sizes (from 14,5 to 16,2 mm) and an upright bell (instead of the traditional oval modell). The band I then played in, bought this instrument for me, and I have played it with enormous pleasure for some years, till I moved to an other part of the country and left that band. Today being a tubaplayer, coincidentally I came across one of these early Miraphones yesterday. It was in a "very heavily used" state. But....the valves still worked perfectly!! And after playing it for a short time, the old love was there again. So, I have bought it for a few 100 bucks. After cleaning and oiling it, I hardly can stop playing: I still like the warmth and the colourfull character of the tone more than that of any other tenor (baryton and euphonium) I have played in my life.
A quick view on the Miraphone site learned me, that they are still producing this type of baryton/Kaiser baryton (with a little bigger bell). Apparently I am not the only one to like it.

Re: Happy reunion
It looks like the actual model 56A (070056A07020). Bore size starting a bit smaller (14,5 instead of 14,7, bell 29 cm instead of 31 cm). Intonation is OK.

Perhaps this is a new one? http://www.dillonmusic.com/p-4944-mirap ... alves.aspx" target="_blank" target="_blank
I had a rotary baryton at one point, can't remember, think maybe it was a Meinl Weston? And its intonation was so horrid I just could not make it work. The open bugle was way out of tune with itself, just impossible. The Miraphone one, I would expect to have better intonation.
