YAMAHA SILENT BRASS FOR TUBA

Post by eeflattuba »

Got my new silent brass system in the mail a couple of weeks ago from the horn guys.Great people to deal with. Item was shipped all the way from California to way up here in Saskatoon. Arrived with not a mark on it. Impecable service. As an owner of the old system the new one is a VAST improvement. The mute is smaller than the old one and fits inside the bell with none of the annoying straps and claps that the old one had.The new one has what I would describe as a tuning pipe on top of the mute that you can adjust depending on what key of tuba you are playing. It works really well.It came with a harness that can attach to the bell.I have not had the need to use it as my current horns[bb flat neo and a besson 981] do not need it.The enclosed ear buds are useless so I have acquired a set of really good headphones. Makes a world of difference.I know practice mutes are not everybodys cup of tea but this one works for me when I do not feel like driving to my shop to play open.If someone could post pictures of the new mute it would be greatly appreciated. My only complaint is the price. It is Hugely overpriced.Yamaha has done itself a huge disservice by pricing this mute so high.

I just looked and the French horn silent brass is $200. Tuba SB from Horn Guys is $560, and "sold out".

I pre ordered mine last summer as the horn guys only had a few coming in. Not sure how readily available they are now.
