Help me decide which horn to bring to Tuba Christmas this year.

Bring the one you want to sell.
No harm in mixing commerce with the Holidays!!

Why not one of the lap dogs?

Nope, I was there last year (and will be there this year). Plenty of sitting.
Kind of just giving him a hard time, too. I think the real reason is that his stuff is too nice, and he wants to avoid the typical TC smash and dent seating area.

Or buy a Willson, which is built like a tank. "Dent, or be dented."

Thanks for the suggestions, please keep them coming. My Tuba Christmas event is Sunday December 4th. My primary "lap dog" is too common for Tuba Christmas (and I do want to avoid further denting). My 1912 Martin is played a lot in the summer. I wanted to play a horn that does not get used very often. The current lowest use horn is the 1921 Holton Helicon. The Bubbie is just fun, it hasn't been seen by anyone and it technically is a lap dog. The 28K will be used tonight for a gig at the Mall of America. I was considering the idea of playing double bell this year, but someone is borrowing that horn for a Christmas gig.

All makes sense!
In that case, then I agree with the others -- bring the Holton, and try your best to not come home with it!

To me, TubaChristmas is to play Christmas music and to promote the tuba. Bringing an instrument which the crowd is as important as the sound. So, that's why I put the choices in order.
1. You could take something that possibly no one else will have- the travel tuba. The audience will like seeing it and those who come up afterwards might like to look it over.
2. You could take the 1892 Helicon. People like seeing stuff that old.
3. You could take the Eb sousa. There probably will be a full sized BBb tuba there and would be an interesting contrast for the people to see.
4. You could take the Holton because you have it for sale and may find a buyer.

Does anyone bring more than one, then switch between carols?
Would that be frowned upon, or something?

If you skip the 1892 Helicon, my 1915ish Champion Silver Piston Eb Helicon will be the oldest horn there : )

Well, the answer to this question was, none. I had a family emergency on Thursday, causing me to be out of town for Tuba Christmas, so I could not participate. Things are resolving themselves. Thank you for all your comments. I hope those who got to attend had a good time.

Sorry you weren't able to go. I was there, and it was fun as usual. Didn't hear much audience sing-along to Fum Fum Fum, though.
Very large group -- I was told around 140, and there were about 100 there last year. Pretty soon, they're going to need a bigger space!
